Nightlife and Halloween in Kyoto

I’ve spent a bit of time in Kyoto quite a few times this and last year and last and thought it’d be a great spot to spend Halloween with a couple friends.

"Where The Wild Things Are" is a shitty book...even for kids...

Even Michael Puckett might agree! (I haven’t asked him yet though, so I’m not sure).

Koyasan

Last Friday, on a whim, I decided to take a train down to the head of a 23km trail that would take myself and two friends to the town of Koya, the heart of a sect of Buddhism called Shingon.

Fashion Fun that Takes You Back

/ By Sarah Ellis

Remember your little fold-over ruffle socks that you sported with your keds on the playground? Ditch the socks and go barefoot in these preppy classics that will never age. They’re perfect for springtime and look great with cropped pants. AND since “Green is the New Black” check out Keds “Green” Tennies…adorable shoes that help you save the planet!

Keds Willlow Lace Up Green $55 at www.keds.com.

Nothing beats these girly girl ruffles and bright colors. It’s a major step up from those Easter Dress frills of your yesteryears. The price tag promises a fresh take on a designer classic and we all know Diane von Furstenberg delivers.

Diane von Furstenberg Lauriston Stretch Silk Mesh Chiffon Ruffle Dress $525 at www.intermix.com.

Jemma Kidd’s makeup collection for Target takes me back to the bright colors in my first makeup kit. I was in hog heaven with all pink and purple shadows and powders, but these days I like something that packs a little more punch. Her I-Tech Liquid Liner Collection is pure fun. Lime, Turquoise, and Electric Purple will give you a bang for your buck.

JK Jemma Kidd I-Tech Liquid Liner Collection $18 at Target.

Headbands are all the rage, and it’s a good thing too because they’re so darn practical. What a better way to tame your mane and decorate your hair? Find slightly more grown-up version of what you wore in your 3rd grade class picture and you’re good to go. Goody has an unending supply of choices that are at such low prices you don’t have to worry about breaking or losing them. I swear I loose track of more headbands than any other item I own. Amen?

Trendy tip: Tease your hair and slick your bangs back so your poof starts behind the headband to dress it up a little.

Goody’s hair bands and accessories $2-7 found at Target.

Stack these funky friendship style bracelets up your arm for some old school arm decorations. You’re even allowed to buy them for yourself without making a pact to keep your best friends secrets. At $2.80 a pop you can grab a bunch of these elastics that come in tons of bright colors.

Precious Metals Bracelet $2.80 at Forever 21.

Sunglasses were without a doubt the easiest way to prove your cool when you were 5 and the rule remains the same for age 25. These sparkly bright ones remind me of my princess days and the colors are so totally 90s they’re hard to pass up, even for memories sake.

Sunglasses style #F3770 $5.80 at Forever 21.
