Nightlife and Halloween in Kyoto

I’ve spent a bit of time in Kyoto quite a few times this and last year and last and thought it’d be a great spot to spend Halloween with a couple friends.

"Where The Wild Things Are" is a shitty book...even for kids...

Even Michael Puckett might agree! (I haven’t asked him yet though, so I’m not sure).

Koyasan

Last Friday, on a whim, I decided to take a train down to the head of a 23km trail that would take myself and two friends to the town of Koya, the heart of a sect of Buddhism called Shingon.

The Spoon is back! :)

/ By Student Government Assocation

The spoon is back and causing mishaps (only now she has a P.I.C!) :)

— Not really—

Coming up very soon SGA will be hosting a “Controversial Movie Night” where we will be airing films that — you guessed it— cause controversy!

My mother often told me that there are three things you ARE NOT allowed to talk about. Race, Politics and Religion. “Well say it ain’t so Mo” because that’s what a few of our movie topics will be focused on!

I want this experience to be done in a thought provoking manner. I want civil debates to be held after the movies are shown, so hopefully some questions can be asked (without fear) and maybe, just maybe things will become clearer. We will also have a few guest speakers to come in and discuss the movies as well.

Now I know some people will think, “This could possibly blow up in your face and just cause more problems rather than resolving any.” Yes, that is a possibility but here is how I look at it, “Everyone has opinions and just like assholes sometimes they stink!” I don’t want a verbal argument to errupt, I just want people from all walks of life, colors, religions, etc. to open the doors that no one wants touch.

I admit race and religion are two touchy subject (for me personally) but I’m not afraid to say what I feel because it’s my opinion. I have a right to say whatever the hell I want. Now, I am very interested in seeing how people will respond to the first movie. I’m not giving away any titles or anything because we may change it but if anyone is familiar with Spike Lee look up some of his movies and try to guess which one will be played.

I am interested in seeing what you think. What is your opinion about this subject matter? Do you think this will go over well? Do you have an controversial movie suggestions?

Here are some of the categories we will be choosing from:
Race
Religion
Politics
Feminism
Sexual Orientation

Any other categories we should thrown in?

Stay tuned…
