Hex and the City

People have told me over the years that their lives are pretty normal and, well, boring. They say, “You know what I mean?” when they ramble about their parents never letting them stay out past 11 or how their siblings go through their most secret of possession. I guess I always nodded, but to tell you the truth…I have led a pretty interesting life.

On Beat Happening and Summer Street Style.

n order to summarize something, sometimes my vision becomes a montage of images that I try my hardest to transfer to paper. Or, e-paper.

The images that came to mind when I was trying to whittle my summer down into a concise paragraph: first, my new house. As always, click the images to make them bigger.

What it symbolizes to me is my newfound freedom, and what that freedom is represented by in my head is a collage of summer plans and fun people and the great job I have which enables me to write while at work.

The second image is the poster of Stanley Kubrick’s Lolita, which I watched for the first time this summer and which, I would argue, has become iconic for fashion today.

The last is the series of photographs of the Glastonbury festival I mentioned in my last post.

This one seems to mix well with the other ideas, with its sense of pragmatism and simple coolness.

This series of images further reminded me of a song: “Bewitched,” by Beat Happening, whose lyrics conjured up the image of the kind of girl who I aspire to be and/or dress like and who doesn’t take any shit style-wise or otherwise.

I see you hang in the crowd staring me down
Lick that ice cream cone still I’m all alone
You’ve got me caught let go my heart
Or give me a sign that you’ll be mine
I’ve got a crush on you.

Can’t you just imagine the girl the song was written about? Check out SeeqPod if you’ve never heard it.

But altogether, what am I getting at? Well, in short, it inspired me to blog again, and it sets the mood for the story I’m trying to tell. Why do I get dressed in the morning? In part, to express myself, and part of that is pretending. Don’t you agree?
