“Through these paintings I have attempted to pursue the ideas of otherness, of something beyond, of meanings behind or underneath. Working with the human figure offers so much to dig through, to pull here, or leave behind. Bone and fat constitute places for these bodies in this physical world, muscle and blood offer vehicles of movement, actions that enliven the bones they surround. Because of this ever present movement in the body, my paint will move across the composition through the figures, cutting into or pressing behind, opening the spirituality and psychology of the skin – offering meanings into what ‘human’ and ‘figure’ can actually emote/ mean/ say: ‘here/ presence’, and then ‘not/ inside’.”

Erin Kercheville was born and raised in southern California, graduated from high school there, and moved to Bowling Green, KY to pursue her academic career in art. She has attended Western Kentucky University for four years and has also studied in Florida and France, and will be graduating this May with a degree in painting.
